The coaches of the younger players continue to build solid foundations that are needed to develop as the players move up the club. Focus has been on passing, movement, body position, teamwork and some basic structure for set plays (pre-defined drills used in matches) and it’s a tribute to the coaches that our we have mange to introduce this to an even younger age group than we have before.
We continue to use the academy to set the training themes for the club, this half term the theme is Rockets not Rainbows which is focusing on the speed, accuracy and timing of our passing, and the hidden communication between players needed to gel it all together. Before Christmas we focused on ‘They are Big, we are small’ designed to give our players a bag of tricks and an inner confidence to use when they are playing adults, up age categories or simply against players of the same age that are physical anomalies. At its core was the ability to go into ‘player on’ marking knowing that their body angle and time of the movement will give them the upper hand. Whilst these themes seem simple they are highly complex and what better way to learn them from world class player as we had Pam Cookey one of the best GA England has ever had deliver the Big/Small session and Anna Carter also and ex England player who identified and designed a session for the rockets not rainbows as an improvement area as part of the full review she did having watched our 2 league teams play.
It really has been a true team effort with the coaching team joining the sessions with Pam and Anna to pick up tips and tricks to take into their individual sessions. As well as the core skills I’m probably most excited about how the Strength and Conditioning program is evolving especially the key movement patterns needed to really have benefit from the advanced coaching and style we want to play with.
What a start to the year we have had!
JCT champions in all age categories, top of the adult league and MOST importantly we have had more parents watching matches than ever before! Success on the court is driven by what happens off the court at watching the girls play is critical to this. Hope to see even more of you in the coming months. Add to this the tour to Manchester and 2 world class coaches visiting Geneva specifically to give training sessions to our players it has been an incredibly productive first few months.

Every year we send girls to The Swiss National U17 squads and, so far, GGNA have had the honour of providing many of the national captains and vice captains for the U17 teams since 2010. We also proud to have had many girls play for our teams throughout the years who have gone on to represent their countries at some level. Take a look at our Hall of Fame below.
